We have always run an Angus sire as part of our program. Part of our initial herd base was from registered Brahman cows, featuring mainly traditional Australian bloodlines from Tyagarah and Balara herds, joined to Angus sires. In recent years there have been additions from another long established herd, Grampians and Amaroo. We still run a small herd of registered Brahmans today under our Tralee prefix.
Our Angus sires are selected for structural soundness, suitability for the Queensland environment, (coat and skin type), constitution and some extra growth.
DSK Prism was purchased from the DSK 2020 Production Sale. Long, smooth, plenty of muscle and a sound structure describes this bull. Features a great skin and coat type, which is ideal for Queensland conditions. Prism is also very quiet.
Our previous DSK sire, E42, left us some beautiful cows who are continuing to breed very well for us. Prism's first calves have hit the ground and we are very happy with them.
DSK 9440 E42 was a long, large-framed, quiet, structurally correct sire with a great hindquarter, displaying a short coat and hair type. E42 has had to follow on from some very good Angus sires we have used, but proved his worth. His daughters are amongst some of the best females we have bred, displaying excellent femininity, great temperament and some extra length and growth. E42 has made a valuable and worthwhile contribution to our program.
Purchased from the Glenisa on property sale in 2017, we were attracted to Livery's body depth, muscling and natural fleshing. Livery has grown into a big, long, easy doing, well muscled, deep bull, with a good temperament. For an Angus bull, he has a highly desirable coat and skin type for Queensland conditions.
Berrima Society was utilised in the Elara stud from 2000 to 2001. He was a long, structurally sound, well-muscled Angus sire with an outstanding temperament.
His daughters have produced show winners and top sale bulls. They displayed exceptional fertility and longevity with the last two retired reluctantly in the 2019 drought, still sound and active at 19 years of age.
Rosevale X13 was purchased in 2004 and stayed in the Elara herd until 2011. He had a high growth rate and was a long, well muscled, quiet and structurally sound bull. His high EMA and positive fat EBV's place him near the top of the Brangus rankings today, a great achievement for both an older and proven sire.
Rosevale X13's daughters matured into long, deep-bodied cows that were fertile and produced extremely well. Rosevale X13 produced some very good sale bulls from our higher content Brangus cows.
